Educational Pathways

Getting people back on trackGetting Young People Back on Track

The Educational Pathways training centre provides alternative educational opportunities for young people under 16 years old who are either at risk of exclusion from school, or who have already been excluded and are struggling to reintegrate with educational services. We run a number of programmes designed to engage hard to reach teenagers and encourage them back into full time education and society. We also provide ad hoc support for 11 - 16 year olds who temporarily have no school placement and are undertaking new work with primary aged children who have been excluded from school

The aim with all our learners is to involve them in positive activities which are tailored to meet their individual needs and address the issues which have led to their exclusion from school. We give each child what is often their first positive learning experience, and help to build their motivation to take part and succeed. This raises their self esteem, which in turn raises performance and aspirations.

Using subjects such as art, sport, exercise, cooking and conservation, we help young people understand that education can be fun and rewarding. We undertake work with them on anger management, communication, group working and rights & responsibilities. We prepare them for a return to full time school education or a progression to higher education.

Educational Pathways is located in a purpose-converted building in Grove Street, Cheltenham. It boasts a large, well equipped art and craft room, two IT and Multimedia learning suites, a full kitchen and a leisure area with a TV, video and a selection of board and video games.

A new addition for summer 2007 is an air-conditioned aerobic gym with commercial quality recumbent exercise bikes, water rowing machines and elliptical cross trainers. Young people attending the training centre are encouraged to undertake regular exercise sessions under the supervision of qualified gym instructors.

Opt In

Opt InOpt In is a programme for young people aged 14 - 16 years old who are struggling to stay in a mainstream school placement. Schools are able to access a package of flexible sessions and support which enable and encourage the young person to continue with what is working well at school, and spend time at CCP focussing on the things they are finding difficult. This helps to break the cycle of problems that the young person has faced at school, leading to a more positive learning experience and helping them to understand the importance and benefits of attendance and achievement at school.

Moving On

Moving OnMoving ON is run in partnership with Gloucestershire Reintegration Service. Young people can undertake a range of activities designed to engage and motivate. Each young person has a personal timetable designed to meet their individual needs, interests and abilities. Focus is on progression into year 11 post 16 educational options.
