Winchcombe House

Winchcombe Medium term supported accommodation for 16 - 25 year olds who have not previously lived independently.

Purpose

Winchcombe House is a Medium Support unit for 16-25 years olds. There are 6 individual rooms with ensuite bathrooms and 3 self contained flats, together with two shared kitchens, a living room and an activity room.

A young person will be accepted for a place at Winchcombe House following assessment at Bramah House to ensure they have an appropriate support package in place and have been assessed as ready to cope with the lower level of support available. Young people must be ready and willing to engage with staff to develop their independent living skills and undertake approved training, with the expectation that this will lead to future employment opportunities.

Staffing and Support

Winchcombe House is permanently staffed 24 hours per day. All residents have an allocated Support Coordinator, generally the same staff member who assessed them at Bramah. This approach helps a young person to recognise the value of developing trusting relationships. The agreed Personal Housing and Support Plan will be regularly reviewed to ensure that the young person has the best possible chance to succeed in independent living.

Resettlement and Move On

Young people may stay at Winchcombe House for up to two years, although the average stay is several months shorter than this. They will be encouraged to move on to independent living only when their Support Coordinator is satisfied that they have fully developed the skills to cope by themselves, giving them the best possible chance to sustain their own tenancy.
